Wasting Food. Food Waste.

Today I ate a bell pepper. Delicious. I did not eat the green stem nor any seeds. I dropped the stem and seeds into soil where they are now reintegrating with Earth and potentially germinating.
  • There are many ways to minimize the wastes associated with food.
  • "factory" farmed foods create great waste; the foods are lower in quality and use poisons that destroy soil, water, and air.
  • foods purchased from other continents use a lot of energy! I heard my Uncle, a petroleum engineer, describe how many calories it takes in the process of getting an organic banana (that comes from thousands of miles away!) So....
  • Eat Local! Eat Seasonal! Local and Seasonal produce tends to be less expensive on the pocketbook and on the eco-footprint.
  • Eat Really Local = Find Food Growing Near You.
  • Learn about "wild" food. Edible herbs grasses fruits vegetables. The world of food surrounds you!
  • Eat appropriate portions of nutrient dense food.
  • Chew thoroughly
  • Minimize Stress
  • Meditate
  • Chew Thoroughly

  • Write down what you eat
  • Write down your food goals
  • Avoid "desirous" food
  • Eat things for nutrition not "entertainment"
  • Fresh Fruits and Vegetables require little to no packaging!
  • Check out a CSA - Community Supported Agriculture in your area
  • Plant something! You can plant anywhere!
  • Seems like a good enough start!
